A story to share with every piece-
Clients are more than collectors. They are collaborators in preserving something, whether a memory, a family tree, a space, or an experience. That relationship is central to every artwork.

Wood Carving Questions

Do you have a specific style, favorite subject, or specialty that you carve?

"I gravitate towards elaborating nature by finding patterns and themes within the sculptures location. Birds are a frequent subject of mine when scultping wood because I think I like the contrast between a solid material portraying a weightless beautiful animal. While aiming for relative realism, I also enjoy incorporating the landscape and other natural organic forms."

I have a tree in my yard that came down. We have a lot of memories surrounding it and we are wondering if you can use the wood to sculpt and honor the tree?

"Trees have an endless life. They begin as seeds, grow, share their beauty and life, then come down and decompose for the next generation. Repeat. We can hold onto memories and art alike. Afterall, that's why we create art and why people enjoy it. An art piece reminds us of something and evokes a deep feeling. I have done sculptures of lost pets, floral relief carvings as memorials, furniture pieces, all to help the tree live on as a work of art."

Does the wood have to be a certain type?

"Over a decade, I have carved dozens of wood species. Everything from White Pine to Cherry to Red Oak. Each wood is unique in color, finish, detail, and even smell. That uniqueness actually helps inspire what I feel the piece should become. The wood should be healthy and solid. Each tree is very particular and unique, so don't hesitate to reach out and get my honest opinion."

How much does a wood carving cost?

"The cost of a wood carving is very subjective to the size of the piece, type of wood, location of the wood or stump, and what might be carved from it. Overall, cost can vary but I am more than happy to talk through ideas so you are comfortable with the budget. At the end of the process, you'll have piece of mind and hopefully a one of a kind wood sculpture that elevates your space."

Do you travel if I have a tree in my yard? Would you also deliver?

"Traveling to new places is exciting and fun. I have traveled to many states to create chainsaw carvings or for live events. Recently, I delivered a unique carving to Virginia! While Buffalo NY is my home turf, I have been a part of projects throughout the local area such as Hamburg, Lancaster, Boston, Eden, Niagara Falls, Rochester, etc. Additionally, I have wood carvings everywhere from Canada to Florida. Wherever you are, we can make it happen."

What is the maintenance of a wood carving?

"Your wood sculpture will last however many years you want the piece to last. By this I mean, if it is taken care of then it will be here decades from now. I preserve the wood with Varnish which protects it from the outdoor sun, rain, and snow. Over time, it may need to be cleaned up and re-varnished which I can certainly come back to do. If you choose to keep the piece indoors, then there is little to no maintenance. These are not a mass produced plastic yard piece that you can buy at a store. They are hand-made unique sculptures from a beautifully natural material. That should be embraced!"
